About Us

Early Modern History

The Early Modern group fosters scholarly research and debate around issues of cultural exchange, colonialism, and national identity in a global context. An integral part of a University-wide Early Modern Studies initiative (CEMS), historians team with faculty working in English, Geography, Art History, Latin America, and other fields to create vibrant offerings. Undergraduates may take a wide variety of courses on topics ranging from witchcraft to the European Renaissance and Reformation. Graduates can avail themselves of a stimulating vibrant cross disciplinary training with a truly global reach, with scholars representing European, Asian, Mediterranean, and North American history. The early modern group is also very active in sponsoring conferences, speaker series, and cultural events.
